Inspiring Raw

Today i did a Raw Living Foods class with a mother and daughter who just wanted to be reinspired to eat more raw living foods and reminded that by changing their daily rituals they can easily begin to incorporate more raw living foods into their daily diet. Changing your daily rituals is the key to making any new lifestyle work for you. you need to plan ahead and be prepared all the time. you need to know exactly what you plan on eating all day so that you can prepare it that morning or the night before. if you wait till the last minute to decide you could end up not having access to what you truly want and making the wrong decisions.
i suggest using a wellness journal and writing down exactly what you eat that day in addition to how you feel- energy levels, emotions etc. start to link what you eat to how you feel. also, write down exactly what you plan on eating the next day.
the above recommendations will help get you on the road to success with a healthy eating plan.
check out some pics from the day
i always give my class participants green juice and info packed handouts. in all my classes i always talk about the importance of morning daily rituals and getting loads of wheatgrass, e-3 live, green juices and other superfoods and nutrients into the body first thing in the morning and through the morning. get those nutrients directly into the blood and to the cells!!

veggie wraps that can be made with greens or other veggies such as carrots or beet.

raw vegan pates are like the "meat" of the raw living foods world. we did the not tuna pate today!! this is always a hit. i love the texture in this recipe.

we talked about he importance of eating sprouts- especially sunflower, sea veggies and fermented foods and drinks everyday!!
arame and hiziki

raw fermented kim chi

i demonstrated how to make nori rolls and discussed other great raw living foods entrees such as pizza crusts with fermented cheese spreads and marinated veggies on top and zucchini/veggie pasta meals with fabulous nutrient-dense sauces.

i of course always share how to make the best crunchy savory snack in the world-kale chips!! my cheesy nacho kale chips!!
the nacho hemp sauce

the kale chips smothered in nacho cheese sauce

we discussed how to use irish moss to give things a creamy texture- such as ice creams. i gave them a pint of raw vegan ice cream that i made earlier with irish moss to enjoy at home.

we also discussed green juices, green smoothies, power smoothies, green energy soups, sun burgers, energy balls and bars and more...
we discussed raw living foods concepts such as acid/alkalizing levels, supplementation, growing wheatgrass and sprouts and more...

they discussed the idea of each of them making certain recipes and foods each week and then sharing. this is a fabulous idea to get more variety into your diet.

each week i open "Kelly's RAW Kitchen" to anyone wanting to be inspired to eat more raw living foods. it truly is an amazing way to eat and live- plus it is sooo delicious and nutritious. call or email to set up a time for you, your family and your friends to join me.

Superfood "Coffee" Bliss!!

i'm always experimenting with new elixirs, smoothies, juices and everything to get loads of nutrients, flavor and satisfaction into me. here is a delish one i did this weekend:

2 cups spring water to make tea
tea: 1 tea bag teechino dark roast, 1 tea bag gynostemma tea
let tea chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes & add to tea:
1 tbsp reishi powder
1 tbsp chaga powder
1 tsp cacao powder
1 tbsp noniland honey
1 tsp mesquite
1 tsp lucuma
1 tbsp dandy tea
5 drops vanilla stevia
dash vanilla powder
dash cinnamon
dash cayenne
optional: 1 cup crushed ice to make it frothie

This was sooooo refreshing on the hot summer day!! 1000 times better than any starbucks drink!!!
remember, you can transform any food or drink into a healthier version. If you ever have something you really want transformed and can't figure out how to do it- send it my way. i will transform your "not so healthy" food or drink into a masterpiece that will make your body thrive.

check out the boys splurging on some yummy ice cream at the pool- the ice cream cones were bigger than them. i am ok with allowing the boys to have treats like this occasionally as long as i know that what they get in their bodies 95% of the time is whole, real, organic food- that is nutritious and delicious!! they enjoyed every bite and drip!!

have a beautiful day, kelly

Private Vita-Mix Class

Check out the raw food goodies from today's Private Raw Living Food Vitamix Demo:
Sunny Sunflower Pate- Ate this wrapped in nori with sprinkle of nutritional yeast

Almond Brazil Nut Vanilla Ice Cream

One of the best things you can consume are Energy Soups. I demonstrated one of my favorite Green Energy Soups!!

Most importantly you need to know how to make green juice daily!! yes its best if you make it in a juicer that preserves the nutrients but if you are in a rush the vitamix is a great choice to get those greens in the body!! The more greens you get in the body the more alkalized you will be!!

In addition to all the above we did green smoothies, power smoothies, fermented raw cheeses, sauces/dips/pestos and puddings.

I did a private movement session with one of my interns tonight and i packed her a little goodie bag of raw living foods for her dinner.

Get a group together, tell me what foods/drinks you want to learn how to make and we'll schedule a class- call or email.

Raw Food Immersion Program starting in the fall. I'll keep you posted on the details.

Private Dehydration Class Today!!

Check out some of the delicious foods i demonstrated at today's private dehydration class:
Cheesy Crunchy Kale Chips. I did not demo "My Secret Recipe" but one that is still amazing!! This is the best food to eat in place of salty crunchy potato chips. Everyone needs to know how to make kale chips.

My famous seed crusts that i use for many things. i love making open-faced sandwiches with a spread of zucchini hummus, sprouts and veggies. i often just dip these in pestos and enjoy while i'm eating an energy soup. i love spreading them with a raw vegan fermented cheese and then loading them with veggies such as marinated mushrooms and red peppers. i top everything off with sprouts!!

My basic but essential Spinach Flax Wrap. These are awesome in place of grain wraps for sandwich wraps. i love to wrap sprouts and a pate and eat like a burrito.

Here are my "Crispy Green Crackers" made from the pulp left over from my green juice each day. In this recipe i added sprouted ground flax, soaked sun dried tomatoes, sea salt, dulse, kelp, soaking water from sun dried tomatoes and more water till consistency i wanted.

Call or email to schedule a private raw food demonstration or lunch party where we make the lunch together and then sit down and eat together.

Schedule a group of 10 or more and you get the class for free.

Orange-Apple Green Juice, Retreats and more...

The morning of the day i go to the grocery store i always try and use up anything that needs to be used asap. i had 1 apple and 2 oranges so i used those in my green juice instead of all apple. it was delish!! we ate our chlorella tablets while sipping on our juice.

Orange Apple Green Juice
2 stalks celery
1/2 cucumber
1 apple
2 oranges
3 big handfuls of sunflower sprouts
1 big handful of broccoli sprouts
3 leaves of kale
1 handful of spinach
1 handful dandelion greens
1 handful cilantro
1 handful beet greens
2 baby bok choy
juice of 1 lemon
1 inch of grated ginger
The kids were watching The Freshbeat Band and they were making special Freshbeat Band SMOOTHIES!! Mason was sooo excited to make his smoothies the same color as the Freshbeat Band Smoothies!! Even though we make smoothies every day it was sooo much more exciting yesterday because they were "Freshbeat Band Smoothies" and not just our regular smoothies. Straws always make them more exciting too.
Mason's recipe was simple:

1 mango
2 frozen bananas
fresh coconut water
Owen's recipe was a little more exciting:
1 handful cherries
1 handful goji berries
1 handful spinach
dash of dulse
fresh coconut water
Let your kids be creative and throw what they want into the blender!!! Let's hope its something green.
On Father's Day we ventured down to the waterfront and explored the boats, kayaks, ducks and more. The boys had a blast feeding the ducks. A regular activity for mason and i this summer will be kayaking!! i hope he loves it as much as i do.

mason feeding the ducks

two boys on the doc had just caught a fish that was still alive in their hands!

On the way home i was starving so we stopped at whole foods- Brad's Kale Chips to the Rescue!!! ate the whole box easily.

Later Mason and i went grocery shopping at MOMs and i was in Kale Chip mode so i tried these Coconut Curry Kale Chips. They are on the sweet side because they have dates and coconut in them. i prefer my kale chips to be savory. i have to say that Kelly's Crunchy Cheesy Kale Chips are the best!!

Today Owen and I ventured out to a retreat center in Maryland where I will be doing some of my Raw Food and Yoga Retreats and hopefully parts of my Raw Food Immersion Program. Owen had a blast playing with the horses. The farm is only 40 minutes from Bethesda and it is a beautiful drive. it totally gets you away from everyday life in Bethesda and Washington DC. I'll keep you posted on all future events here!!

Delish Dressing Recipe, Tae Kwon Do and Yoga for Kids & Summer Camp

Here is a delicious and nutritious dressing i used for our sprout salads and on top of our broccoli and asparagus tonight:
(sorry- i forgot to take a pic of the dressing)
before i added the dressing i marinated the broccoli and asparagus in lemon juice, sea salt and dash of olive oil and placed in dehydrator for 2 hours on 115 degrees.

1/2 c lemon juice
1/2 c hemp oil
3 tbsp rejuvenative foods tahini
1 tsp kelp
1 tsp dulse
1 cup fresh basil
1 tbsp noniland honey (my favorite honey right now)

dash of sea salt
dash of cayenne
*blend all in blender

if you know me at all you know that i'm very active. i rarely sit during the day except to drink or eat my nutrition and even then i sometimes don't sit (i'm not suggesting this is good for everyone- but it works for me most of the time).
my belief with my boys is that i want to introduce them to all types of activity and then let them choose what makes them thrive the most. two activities i truly hope my kids continue to do for a lifetime are tae kwon do and yoga. mason and owen practice yoga and rebound (jump on trampoline) with me in the morning and mason does various kid's yoga sessions. mason also has been doing karate for over a year now, did a spring break karate camp and has his yellow stripe. i love both yoga and karate for kids for many reasons but most of all for the discipline, the focus on not only the physical but the mental and spiritual aspects too and for the conditioning of the body as a whole. here are some pics from mason's karate class today:
warming up

doing push ups

butterfly stretch

back extension (high cobra)

owen reading his firetruck book while mason did tae kwon do

mason is the one all the way to the right facing the windows. here they are doing their punches.

doing side kick

end of class

after karate we sat outside to enjoy a variety of nourishing foods. i had my gynostemma tea which i can feel nourishes me!! the kids had: apples, almond butter, honey, grapes, hummus with carrots and celery and hardboiled eggs. mason had his fruit smoothie and owen had his green juice. not the best food combining but i'm not too worried about that for them.

then we were off to sidwell for mason's kaleidoscope summer camp meet and greet. wow did they have a blast- facepainting, huge sandbox, playground, basketball, sweet treats of course, bubbles and more. mason and i played some hoops while owen climbed on the monkey bars and sliding boards. here they are on the swings. mason loves flying high to outer space!! i know he is going have a blast this summer.

now its time to read books!! namaste, kelly
